Mainland - Shapinsay

Returning to Tingwall we start our return journey to Kirkwall. Reaching the Norseman Village those amongst us who are interested in agricultural history can take a detour by turning right to continue up and over the hill to the Corrigall Farm Museum, and whilst in this area the anglers amongst us can spend some time at the lochs in the area fishing for Orkney trout.After this detour. We can continue on our return to Kirkwall, where we can begin to explore the remainder of the North Isles beginning with Shapinsay. The ferry for which leaves the first ferry slipway that we come to in Kirkwall. On arrival at Shapinsay we can go to nearby Balfour Castle and Mill Dam R.S.P.B. Reserve and other points of interest available in Shapinsay after which we can return to Kirkwall for the next part of our journey to remaining isles to the north the ferry for which leaves the other slipway at Kirkwall pier which overlooks the new Yacht Marina there is also a new pier at Hatston on the outskirts of Kirkwall which is where the ferries for Aberdeen and Lerwick depart and arrive as do the cruise ships when they visit Scotlands most popular cruise ship destination some of which lie off and ferry their passengers into Kirkwall pier to join the various tour coaches. We can now go by ferry to the rest of the north isles Stronsay, Eday, Sanday and Westray where tours can be booked through westraak and Papa Westray which boasts the World's Shortest Scheduled Flight, which runs between Westray and Papa Westray, and is scheduled to last 2 minutes. Those who travel on the Shortest Flight can get a certificate at the Kirkwall desk. Return flights to Papa Westray are subsidised. Finally we can go to the most northerly island that of North Ronaldsay which boasts Dennis Head Old Beacon a finalist in BBC2's Restoration Village and also Orkney's most northerly self catering cottage Dennishill, this last group of isles are all serviced by regular air flights from Kirkwall. We have now arrived at our journey's end.
